Day 1 - Friday, 19 August 2022

As we said, the official programme starts on Friday afternoon, 19 August. The preliminary schedule is that we will start with a “Get Together Party” around 4 pm. We have of course ordered fine summer weather and are therefore anticipating an enjoyable al fresco gathering with drinks and some snacks. There will be much to talk about and, not least, to admire – the splendid heritage rolling in from various countries, and who knows, perhaps even from various continents.

Friday evening is all about the anniversary “dinner” and note that we use the quotation marks for a reason. The main features of the evening meal are outdoors, good food, catching up with musical accompaniment that won’t drown out those meaningful conversations. Informal and fun, it will not be a static sit-down dinner at a set table.

Drinks will be available in the hotel bar until late for any night owls among you. We are sure that everyone will enjoy a good night's sleep in the tranquillity of the Veluwe woods and who knows, you may be woken up by the sound of a woodpecker. We are sure that you will start Saturday off well-rested and with a nutritious breakfast.

Day 2 - Saturday, 20 August 20 2022

On Saturday you will be spoiled for choice – there are a range of routes for tours through the surrounding area that we have enjoyed mapping out for you. Or you can take part in the sports class…. Yes, there will be something to win this weekend for those of you who are feeling a little more competitive.

There is a lot to see around Elspeet. The town is located in the Veluwe, a varied natural area that encompasses woodland, heath, sand drifts and small lakes. Slightly further afield but within easy driving distance is the Posbank, which is an absolute must for those of you who love hairpins and the Dutch hillclimb. Another option is to visit the Loo Palace where one of our routes will take you. Other trips we have mapped for you lead to destinations such as the Hanseatic cities of Deventer and Hattem or the fortifications of the historic IJssel line…. So there is plenty of choice!

We will round off the Saturday with another take on ‘dinner’ at Hotel Mennorode. Your morning coffee, lunch and afternoon drinks are not included in the programme and you are free to do as you please. But don’t worry, we have some refreshing suggestions for breaks along your chosen route.

Day 3 - Sunday, 21 August 2022

On Sunday morning you may be woken by evocative woodland sounds, the drum of a woodpecker perhaps, or the burling of a stag, but what is certain is that there will be lots for you to enjoy.

Start the day off with a lazy breakfast and end your Sunday afternoon with a High Tea and of course the award ceremony for the drivers competing in the sports class. In between there is still plenty of time and opportunity to enjoy the beauty the Dutch countryside has to offer – coffee at the picturesque harbour in Elburg today?

Although the programmed event formally ends after our High Tea, that does not mean your weekend has to. No reason not to extend your stay to include Sunday night! Enjoy another night in a quiet woodland setting and postpone thinking about the daily grind until Monday morning…..
